Once your pet has reached the age of a year, you should take them to the vet at least once a year for routine check-ups. At the Victoria Park Pet Practice, we’ll take care of your pet’s essential needs. Pets need routine check-ups to keep them healthy and prevent them from living a poor quality life. We take care of your pets’ annual vaccination, heartworm prevention, blood testing and flea and tick control.

Having your pet microchipped will give you a better chance of locating them if they get lost or stolen. Depending on the size, species and condition of your pet, the Pet Practice will advise you on having your pet microchipped. If your pet is scanned at another vet or shelter, their ID number will be transmitted and your relevant contact details will be accessible. A microchip is generally the size of a grain of rice. It doesn’t have a battery and is injected into loose skin. The procedure is as invasive as a vaccination. Vic Veterinary Clinic can insert a microchip for your pet with ease.

It’s likely that your pets will spend a lot of time outdoors but this can attract ticks and fleas. While limiting their time outside may help reduce their infection rate, it’s not always a viable option. Treating them regularly, usually once a month, will improve their quality of life. Speak to a professional at the Victoria Park Pet Practice to find a solution that’s best for your pet.

Desexing your pet is a surgical procedure that they undergo to have their sexual organs removed. There are many reasons to have your pet desexed and the most obvious for females is so that they don’t accidentally become pregnant and you are unable to take care of their offspring. Castration for males can reduce behavioral issues like aggression and roaming. It’s important that you take your pet to a reputable vet to have the procedure done to avoid any complications.

The frequency will depend on the age of your pet and the type of worm. If they’re below the age of 6 months, they should be wormed once a month. After this they should be wormed at least every 3 months. Speaking to your Victoria Park vet can help ease any uncertainty you may have and how best to treat them based on their lifestyle.

Your pet needs routine check-ups and treatments to keep them in optimal health and this can get expensive and overwhelming. That’s why the Victoria Park Pet Practice has developed Wellness Plans to make things easy and affordable. We have different plans to suit your and your pet’s needs.
